Title:  Spiritual Healthcare of Others, Part 2

Scripture: James 5:13-18

Theme: The Lord saves all who call upon Him in faith believing.

  1. The _______________ of faith.
    1. vv. 14-15.
    2. Observation
  2. The ________________ of sin confession.
    1. Therefore confess your sins to one another…
    2. Some healthy effects from this mutual recognition of our faults.
  3. The ________________ of a righteous one’s prayer.
    1. V. 16b
    2. The example of Elijah, vv. 17-18.

Questions for Study:

  • Vv. 14-20 describe instances of brotherly love in Christ. What are they?
  • How does Isaiah 53:4-6 relate to James instructions in 5:13-18?
  • Some think one must be a super-Christian/super saint in order to have an active, vibrant prayer life. What does James say about this in 5:17? What DOES one need to have for an active, fruitful prayer life—life that sees God answering one’s prayers? (vv. 15-16). See Hebrews 11 for examples.

The Lord is not obligated to hear or answer the prayers of those who reject Him, who do not yield their heart to Him in faith obedience. That said, here is a prayer the Lord will always answer in the affirmative, if one offer it with a sincere heart and in true faith in Him: Lord, I admit I am a sinner. I need and want Your forgiveness. I accept Your death as the penalty for my sin, and recognize that Your mercy and grace is a gift You offer to me because of Your great love, not based on anything I have done. Cleanse me and make me Your child. By faith I receive You into my heart as the Son of God and as Savior and Lord of my life. From now on, help me live for You, with You in control.

In Your precious name, Amen
