Sermon Sneak Peek 10/6/2019 – Jesus expounds His Kingdom’s Law/Standard of Righteousness

Questions for Study: Matthew 5:21-30 comes from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Have you ever read Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in its entirety?
To whom was the Sermon on the Mount addressed? Everyone? Christians who have a personal relationship with Christ? See Matthew 5:1.
Why would the intended audience make a difference as to the carrying out of the Sermon’s instructions? Put another way: can just any person obey Jesus’ Sermon as He meant it to be obeyed?
Are there parallels between Moses receiving the Law on Mt. Sinai & Jesus proclaiming the Sermon on the Mount? See Exodus 24; Matthew 5:1-2.
How did Jesus fulfill the Law & the Prophets? 5:17-18.
How does Jesus fulfill the Law & the Prophets in us? See Romans 2:29; 8:1-4, II Corinthians 3:17-18; Galatians 5:16, 25. How does this fulfill prophecy? See Jeremiah 31:33 (see Hebrews 8:10; 10:16); Ezekiel 36:25-27; Psalm 37:31; 40:8.
Some scholars render v. 21’s ‘to’ as ‘by’: You have heard that it was said BY those of old. Then, who were those of old whom Jesus quotes? V. 21, 27, 31, 33, 38, 43.
Is all anger sinful or just certain kinds? God is angry with the wicked every day (Ps. 7:11). Jesus looked on the heart hardness of the Jewish leaders with anger (Mk. 3:5). What kind of anger does Jesus forbid in v. 22?
According to 5:23ff, does the 6th Commandment include a requirement to reconcile where possible?
Does the 6th Commandment speak to the subject of violent video games? Violence in TV shows & movies?
How are Matthew 5:27-30 and I Corinthians 6:18-20 related?
