Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.  (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Hello again from Wisconsin, my family of faith! The school semester here at New Tribes Bible Institute finishes up on December 12th, and there is an excitement in the students and staff with the upcoming opportunities to see family and friends during Christmastime.

In regards to my upcoming travels, I will be visiting upstate New York from roughly December 22nd through January 3rd, and I look forward to catching up with many of you in person during that time. The Second Reformed Church of Marion, NY has graciously allowed me an opportunity to proclaim the Word on December 28th, which I am very much looking forward to. It’s such a thrill for me to know that we are united on the Word of God as our foundation as it points us to the cornerstone of our faith, Jesus Christ!

At this point in the semester, our class is currently studying the book of Romans, as well as 1 Peter and Hebrews. Many of you from Marion know of Dave Field, who is currently my teacher for Romans. It has been so encouraging for us students to see not only Dave’s, but the entire staffs excitement and passion for the Bible to be understood and to have eternal impact. Verses like Romans 11:25, which says that God has partially hardened Israel “until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.” There will come a day when our Lord will come to take us to be with Him, and our opportunity to proclaim the saving truth of Jesus to a lost and dying world will end. May we not be lax or forgetful to what our purpose is in this world. My desire is that whether in life or death, my life will have brought glory to God, and that the name of Jesus will be worshiped  evermore as a result of my trust in Him!

Maybe it’s because I’m surrounded with students here who desire to serve the Lord in full-time ministry, but if I may be honest with you, I hope that none of us who claim the name of Jesus would become consumed with the “here and now”, forgetting that this world is not our home, and would be about growing in our trust of the Lord and making His name known. I have not been given a special calling just because I am at Bible School, we all are called to testify of the grace of God to those who otherwise are without hope. If we have been bought with the blood of Christ, our lives are to now be a living sacrifice for Him (Romans 12:1-2). I hope you would be encouraged, not demoralized, through these strong words of mine!

As always, I do very much appreciate your prayers for me as I continue here at school. I am in as much desperate need of prayer as anyone, and with that I ask that you pray for me in a few specific areas of need:

Spiritually: To not allow my walk with Christ to be compromised with the busyness of life, and also that the Word of God would not be a textbook, but an opportunity to meet with the Lord.

Relationally: To continue to seek God’s will in my dating relationship with Brittany, as well as to be an encouragement to my room mates and fellow students as we finish out the semester.

Finances: NTBI Initial payment – At the beginning of each semester students have to pay about half of the semesters tuition up front. With the Spring semester upcoming, I am trusting the Lord to provide for this need. My current job as a school bus driver has allowed me to save somewhat for this payment, and I will trust Him and His faithfulness for the rest.

It really does overwhelm me that those of you who read these email updates are interested in what God is doing through me, and to this I say He is worthy of all praise! My fellow pilgrims in this world, may we continue to look to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, knowing that we have a hope in store for us that we cannot lose!

In Christ,

Members Voted for Michael McOrmond

We are happy to announce that on October 5, 2014, the members voted to install Mr. Michael McOrmond as our new Assistant Pastor at Second Reformed Church of Marion.  Mr. McOrmond has many years of ministry experience in various positions, and we are pleased to have him join our ministry here at Second Reformed Church of Marion and look forward to have both him and his family join our congregation in moving forward in serving the Lord.

Welcome to!

This morning we officially launched

The web team needs help from the entire congregation to make the new website work:

  1. Follow and Share – You don’t even have to use a computer to share the website, the address is right on the front of the bulletin and we have a detailed Visit Us section there to help answer questions for potential visitors.  If you use Facebook or Google+ you can follow new announcements there.  If you use some other social media or news reader, let us know how we can help you get that going too!  Share our social media posts to spread the word when you want to invite your friends to events at SRC.  If you use Google Calendar you can add our shared calendar and have a handy schedule of all SRC events.
  2. Corrections and Additions – If there is anything incorrect on the website, anything missing, any last minute announcements about Volleyball being canceled tomorrow night, anything broken, let us know!  Send an e-mail to and we’ll get that posted for you.
  3. Check back often.  Print the parts of the Window that you need next to your calendar (yes, I know we’re slightly behind on launch day, the latest will be up soon.) Check that your ministry information has not changed (we have a handy search tool so you can find all the related posts) and dates/times are right on the calendars.
  4. Pray for the team – Many potential visitors will see our website before they decide if they want to come see our building and our people.  The website is the church’s online front door.  The web team has to juggle serving the needs of the church and serving the needs of seekers who may have never set foot in a church all while juggling the technical end as well.

We look forward to working with you more to keep improving the website and reaching more people with it.
