2020 VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS & APPLICATION DEADLINES

(Sunday, April 5 – Thursday April 9, 2020)
www.flowercityworkcamp.org

All churches are REQUIRED to submit one of the following adult volunteers for every 3.5 students they wish to bring to Flower City Work Camp.  Deadline January 10, 2020

Work Site Leaders – These leaders provide planning, direction and support on Work Sites, while enabling participating students to do the ministry work.  These leaders must be present Sunday evening and all day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Leaders are strongly encouraged to participate on Thursday morning until 12 noon as well, but that is optional.

Roving Experts – These leaders are adults skilled in one or more major home repair areas: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, roofing, etc. Roving Experts are not assigned a particular work site, but are available during Work Camp to assist Site Leaders with labor-intensive, skill-specific projects or consultations. Roving Experts may also be called on prior to the week of Camp as Work Site Leaders plan the work to be done on their site.  Roving Experts must be available the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Camp.

Sidewalk Club Leaders – These leaders oversee a mini-Vacation Bible School type ministry experience that operates alongside Work Sites in City neighborhoods. Sidewalk Club teams evangelize children with Bible stories, verses, songs, crafts and a clear presentation of the Gospel during the three working days of Work Camp (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday). A Sidewalk Club Leader functions in much the same way for the Sidewalk Clubs as the Work Site Leader does for the Work Site. He or she needs to provide planning, direction and support while allowing the students to do the ministry work.  These leaders must be present starting Sunday afternoon and all day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Leaders are strongly encouraged to participate on Thursday morning until 12 noon as well, but that is optional.

Agency Support Leaders – These leaders provide planning, direction and support on Agency Support sites, while enabling participating students to do the ministry work.  These leaders must be present Sunday evening and all day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Leaders are strongly encouraged to participate on Thursday morning until 12 noon as well, but that is optional.

Sport Camp Coaches (Basketball or Soccer) – These leaders function in much the same way for the Sports Camps as the Work Site Leader does for the Work Site. The Coach works with Work Camp teens to help lead skills and scrimmage events at a City-based mini-camp. The Coach needs to provide planning, direction and support, while allowing the students to do the ministry work.  These leaders must be present starting Sunday afternoon and all day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Leaders are strongly encouraged to participate on Thursday morning until 12 noon as well, but that is optional.

All churches are REQUIRED to submit adult volunteers in each of the categories below.  Deadline January 10, 2020

Overnight Leaders – In addition to the leaders mentioned above, each church must submit at least one male overnight leader (if they are planning to send boys to Camp) and one female overnight leader (if they are planning to send girls to Camp) for each of the four nights of Work Camp.  Different leaders may serve each night, but there must be a minimum of one male and one female leader enrolled for camp by the deadline.

Lunch Coordinator – Churches also must provide a Lunch Coordinator to oversee providing lunch to at least one site during the three work days of Camp (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday)

It is PREFERRED that all churches to submit at least one adult volunteer in an area below. Deadline February 14, 2020

There are many additional ways that we need adults to serve at Flower City Work Camp.  Those positions include, but are not limited to:

  • Gofers – support Work Site teams by responding to requests for materials or other supplies. Gofer activities include purchasing and delivering materials, moving tools or supplies between sites and transporting students as necessary.  All purchases are reimbursed within 48 hours. These leaders must serve for the full week of Camp.
  • Kitchen Crew – feed the hundreds of student and adult volunteers who eat breakfast and dinner at the Host Churches during the week.  Volunteers can either help to prepare and serve meals provided at Home Base or help with the Snack Bar in the evenings.  You can schedule your preferred time slot at the end of your application.
  • First Aid Workers – Nurses or EMT’s provide 24-hour on-site first aid care in the event of injury or illness. These professionals also administer or supervise the taking of medications. Duties are spread among several individuals as schedules permit. You can schedule your preferred time slot at the end of your application.
  • Security Team – These volunteers provide security and information at Home Base each morning, evening and overnight during the week. They help ensure that Flower City Work Camp is a positive, nurturing, and safe place in which our students serve.
  • Prayer Walk Leaders – these leaders oversee Work Site Teams as they go on a daily Prayer Walk in the neighborhood in which they are serving. While Student Shepherds and Work Site Leaders generally coordinate the Prayer Walks, on occasion prayer warrior volunteers are needed to lead a team of students and adults in praying for the area around their work site. Prayer Walk Leaders make it possible for the students to be bold in prayer as they take a walk around the neighborhood, praying for the people and needs they encounter. You can schedule your preferred time slot at the end of your application.
  • Clean Up Volunteers – at the end of the week we need to clean and restore the Host Church location.  These volunteers will assist in a variety of ways to clean and reset the churches back to their normal operational footing.
  • Merchandise Team – we operate both a snack shop fundraiser and branded apparel shop fundraiser in the evenings at Camp.  We need a small group of folks to run those retail operations. It is a great place to interact with the kids.
